    Over the past 65 years, Playboy has become a global institution. Founded by Hugh M. Hefner, the magazine continues to exist at the forefront of the fight for equality and sexual freedom—and to celebrate sex, sophistication and American enterprise. The inimitable publication seeks a Research Editor who will maintain the highest standards of editorial excellence.


    Under the direction of the Executive Editor, the Research Editor is responsible for ensuring that all Playboy magazine’s editorial and creative content is accurate and consistent. This position works closely with editorial and legal staff, internally, and with writers, sources and representation externally. This position also includes key cross-platform responsibilities, including executing the production of magazine content on


    —Work with a high degree of autonomy to fact-check all editorial content, verifying in a timely and professional manner that every quote and detail is accurate and supported by source material

    —Gather supporting documentation (in addition to writer-supplied source material) from credible sources

    —Work with writers and editors to resolve any fact-checking questions that arise and monitor copy to ensure necessary changes are made

    —Liaise with counsel to get legal approval on all content; alert counsel about potentially legally sensitive content and follow through on recommendations

    —Work with the art department on images, charts, infographics, captions and photo research 

    —Maintain and organize research files for each story (this includes galleys, proofs, and source material and documentation)

    —Assist editors with publishing magazine content on Playboys digital platforms

    —Write and produce online profile pages for celebrities, marquee contributors and women who appear in the pages of Playboy magazine, including conducting original interviews with and SEO/keyword research on said contributors 

    —Write and produce “Heritage” content for website under direction of Deputy Editor and SEO team

    —As needed, contribute original stories, including writing and publishing short-lead posts


    The ideal candidate will…

    —Have a degree in journalism or at least three years’ experience at a print publication

    —Have experience with InCopy, editorial workflows and research procedures

    —Demonstrate excellent judgment, especially when evaluating source credibility

    —Navigate delicate situations with confidence, diplomacy and discretion

    —Tenaciously track down information from various sources and people

    —Have strong communication skills

    —Work well under deadline

    —Have a working knowledge of current SEO best practices

    —Have strong writing skills and a fluency in the particular demands of web journalism

    —Be comfortable in an unconventional workplace—the company’s businesses include the depiction of nudity in still photos, artwork and video; as a result, employees are regularly exposed to such depictions as a normal part of the work environment

    —Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
